Celtics’ Brad Stevens will miss Bulls game to visit former Butler player
Celtics coach Brad Stevens will miss Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls to visit a former Butler University player in Indiana, the team said in a statement.
Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens traveled to Indiana to visit a former Butler University player of his and will miss tonight’s game against the Chicago Bulls. We ask that the private nature of this visit be respected. Celtics Assistant Coach Jay Larranaga will serve as head coach tonight in Chicago.
According to an Indianapolis Star report, Stevens is visiting Andrew Smith, who has been battling cancer for two years.
Smith, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in January 2014, was readmitted to the hospital Wednesday, according to the report. His wife requested prayers for him on Twitter.

Smith played in two Final Fours at Butler under Stevens in 2010 and 2011. The Butler basketball team tweeted support for Smith on Thursday.
