Olynyk shocks everyone with a monster putback jam

Kelly Olynyk is not known as a dunker, but that may begin to change after his performance on Wednesday night against the Hornets.

The seven-footer scored a game-high 20 points in Boston’s 102-89 road win over Charlotte, but all anyone wanted to talk about after the game was the big man’s monster putback jam in the second half.

The third-year forward crashed the rim hard after a 3-point attempt from Jared Sullinger was off the mark. Olynyk grabbed the board with one hand and finished with authority over a Hornets defender, to the delight of the Celtics bench.

Olynyk’s show of athleticism took everyone by surprise on social media, including Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Olynyk’s teammates and coach weren’t quite as shocked by the display as Ainge and the rest of the Boston fanbase.

“As I’ve heard Evan Turner describe, he’s one of our better sneaky dunkers,’’ Brad Stevens said of Olynyk after the game. “He does have a little bit of lift he brings out a couple times a month.’’

“I know Kelly can do that,’’ Avery Bradley added. “He’s always dunking in practice and we always joke about how he never dunks in a game. It was a great dunk. A great highlight. Probably No. 3 on ESPN’s [Top 10].’’

Overall, the play caps an impressive week for the 24-year-old in the highlight department since he had already put Karl Anthony-Towns on skates <a href=”

With his confidence running high after another victory, Olynyk also had a parting message for all those who questioned his dunking ability prior to Wednesday’s throwdown.
