The best thing about the Celtics season so far? The Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are 0-7.

That shouldn’t mean much to anyone but Brooklyn Nets fans and Jay Z, but Brad Stevens, Danny Ainge, and the rest of the Boston Celtics must secretly be pretty happy about Brooklyn’s slow start.

Remember that in July of 2013, the Celtics sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Nets in exchange for several players and a collection of future draft picks. At that time, the Nets were good. Those draft picks , three unprotected first-rounders in 2014, 2016, and 2018, as well as the right to swap picks in 2017, could have been good or bad.

It’s looking pretty good.

It’s early, but the Nets are winless and without much promise. They play their next three games (Houston, Sacramento, Golden State) on the road. The entirety of Brooklyn’s November schedule looks tough. Meanwhile, the Celtics are off to a slow start but are encouraged by the promise that young players like Marcus Smart, R.J. Hunter could develop while the team fights for a playoff spot.

Best-case scenario: develop, make a playoff run, and then reap the rewards of a very high Nets draft pick in the offseason.
