Watch Marcus Smart hit a circus 3-pointer while falling out of bounds
COMMENTARY
Like the rest of his teammates, Celtics point guard Marcus Smart had a rough evening against the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. He missed his first five shots from the field, and seemed set for another misfire after teammate Isaiah Thomas sent an errant inbounds pass his way in the closing moments of the second quarter.
With his momentum taking him out of bounds, Smart was forced to fling up a one-footed 3-point attempt from the corner. Somehow, the prayer of a shot went down, tying up the game at 52-52.
It is an early candidate for the Celtics’ most improbable make of the year.

Smart’s basket was impressive, but it still fails to come close to matching the most impressive falling-out-of-bounds shot in NBA history. J.R. Rider still proudly holds that title from 1994 after this gem.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, Smart’s long distance connection was the only true highlight of the night against the Raptors. After heading into intermission tied with Toronto, the hosts were soundly outplayed in the third quarter on their way to a disappointing 113-103 defeat.
Boston’s 3-point shooting was one of the main culprits in the defeat. The team only shot 7 for 26 (26.9 percent) from beyond the arc, including Smart’s miracle make. That number will have to improve if the team hopes to defeat the San Antonio Spurs who are up next on the schedule Sunday afternoon.
