The former Boston Celtics coach thanked Phil Jackson — Rivers’ former coaching rival and current New York Knicks president — for the recommendation.

The Los Angeles Clippers promptly retweeted their coach’s inaugural tweet.

As of Monday night, Rivers was following 18 other accounts. First among them were his children, several Clippers players, several food accounts (including the Boston steakhouse Abe & Louie’s), two architectural magazines, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer’s old account, more Clippers players, and Jackson.

TNT analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who is not on Twitter, promptly welcomed Rivers to the social media platform Monday night. Though he warned Rivers might not get much love from Golden State Warriors fans.
