Klay Thompson says Steph Curry is the best player in the world, not LeBron James
His Golden State Warriors are the NBA Champions, and Klay Thompson says the best player in the world is his teammate and fellow “Splash Brother,’’ Stephen Curry.
“It just feels good to say we’re the best team in the world with the best player in the world, this man sitting to my right,’’ Thompson said after Tuesday’s Game 6 win in Cleveland, motioning towards Curry.
Curry was named NBA MVP this season after leading the Warriors to the league’s best record and averaging 23.8 points and 7.7 assists per game. LeBron James finished third in the MVP voting, and hinted earlier in the Finals that he had some extra motivation to beat the Warriors.
After the Cavaliers fell behind in the series 3-2, James expressed confidence his team could win the last two games and shock the world.
“I feel confident because I’m the best player in the world,’’ James said. James finished the series with averages of 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. His herculean efforts were enough to lead Cleveland to a 2-1 series lead, but the insertion of Finals MVP Andre Iguodala into the Warriors starting lineup before Game 4 proved to be the turning point in the series.
