Bill Simmons, where art thou?

Fans are noticing the usually prolific Simmons’ absence during the NBA Finals. AP

The NBA Finals tipped off Thursday night to a Game 1-record 17.8 million TV viewers.

The series features a dream matchup, charismatic MVP Stephen Curry against the NBA’s biggest star, and everyone’s favorite villain, LeBron James. And Game 1 had plenty of drama, 13 lead changes and 11 ties, not to mention overtime.

So what was one of the NBA’s biggest media stars, former Grantland chief Bill Simmons, tweeting out to his nearly 4 million followers during the game?

Bill?

Bill?

Bueller?

Oh OK, he must’ve taken to Facebook instead.

“We need 2-3 more quality players for my daughter’s under-11 club soccer team,’’ the author of The Book of Basketball wrote Wednesday in his latest post. (The full post was over 700 words, he’s still Bill Simmons after all.)

Wait, what?

Yes, other than a quick prediction on Instagram Tuesday (“Sorry Lebron – I’m picking the Warriors in 5.’’), Simmons has been social-media silent regarding the biggest event (well OK, other than the NBA Draft, he would say) in his favorite sport.

It’s been the norm for Simmons since he parted ways with ESPN in early May (he’s still getting paid through September, the end of his current deal, but won’t be appearing on any of the worldwide leader’s platforms). And his fans are noticing the usually prolific Simmons’ absence.

Where will Simmons land next? Rumors have been swirling, but it’s really anyone’s guess.
