Penny Hardaway Makes a Triumphant Return on NBA All-Star Saturday Night

NBA All-Star Saturday night is kind of silly these days. It’s been a long time since Vince Carter basically retired the dunk contest with his flying tomahawk windmill and there’s never been a better three-point shootout than when Larry Bird was burying long range bombs while still in his warmups almost 30 years ago.

But this year, the event got some much needed cache by virtue of one Anfernee Hardaway, perhaps better known as “Penny,’’ squeezing into his old Orlando Magic duds and taking part in the “Shooting Stars’’ competiton with Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and WNBA star Tamika Catchings.

It was an awesome reminder of one of the most exciting, star players of the ‘90s, a guy who looked like he may be on the way to immortal status until he was betrayed by his knees. Overall, Penny played 704 career games over parts of 15 seasons with Orlando, Phoenix, the Knicks and Miami.

His best years by far came with the Magic. He not only made it all the way to the Finals in just his second season, but he made some of the best commercials ever to grace our televisions.

Remember ‘Lil Penny?

Outstanding. Thanks for the memories, Penny.
