Move Over, Hondo: Kobe Bryant Breaks NBA Record for Missed Field Goals
When you’ve been around the NBA for as long as Kobe Bryant has, you’re bound to end up on some all-time lists, even ones you may not be proud to top.
Bryant broke the NBA record for field goals missed during Tuesday night’s game with Memphis, his 13,418 misses taking over the spot previously held by Celtics legend John Havlicek.
Bryant finished the game with 28 points on 26 shot attempts, as the Lakers fell to the Grizzlies, 107-102. The 16-time NBA champion Lakers have just one win over their first seven games this season.
Havlicek, now second on the list, missed 13,417 field goals in his career, while Elvin Hayes (13,296), Karl Malone (12,682) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (12,470) round out the top-5.
Bryant came into the night with the fourth most field goal attempts in NBA history, and he sure has converted on his fair share of them, as his nearly 32,000 career points trails just Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Malone (36,928), and Michael Jordan (32,292) for the most all-time.
Of course, the five NBA championships, 16 All-Star Game nods, and status as one of the greatest ever to play the game probably softens the blow of standing alone on the field goals missed mountain.
