Best Team Ever? Celtics Run Nets Off Floor in Debut

The Celtics are likely destined for the bottom third of the Eastern Conference, but if they play all year like they did on Wednesday, this could be a fun season.

The C’s team full of young up-and-comers looked like a squad of seasoned veterans in their thrashing of the Brooklyn Nets on Opening Night that wasn’t as close as the 121-105 final score indicated.

The Celtics piled up 67 points through the first half, and Kelly Olynyk’s jumper as time expired in the third quarter got them over the century mark heading for the final 12 minutes. It was the first time since January, 2009, that the C’s scored over 100 points with a full quarter still to play.

The C’s began to run out of gas in the fourth, having gone full throttle the first 36 minutes, and netted just 20 points in the quarter, but it was more than enough to hold off Brooklyn. Eight Celtics scored in double figures, while Rajon Rondo’s line of 13 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds showed that the Boston captain didn’t accumulate any rust from missing all of the preseason with a broken hand.

It may only be for one night, and the Celtics could very well go 0-81 the rest of the way (OK, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration), but as Wednesday’s season opener proved, these Boston Celtics should be quite enjoyable to watch.
