Bob Cousy Reflects Before BC Honor
Celtics legend Bob Cousy has largely avoided requests for public appearances in recent years, but the 85-year-old has agreed to receive an honorary degree from Boston College on May 19.
In an emotional interview with the Worcester Telegram’s Bill Doyle, Cousy discussed the loss of his wife, Missie, last September. Cousy coached the Eagles for six seasons, leading the team to a 117-38 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances and one NIT showing.
“Missie would have been as proud as can be,’’ Cousy told the paper. “Missie used to say that those six years at BC were the maybe the six happiest of our married lives.’’
The former Celtics and Holy Cross star went on to detail the challenges his career had on his family life. Cousy won six NBA championships with the team as a player and a coach. From the story:

Missie Cousy battled dementia for over a decade. The former Celtic has had his own share of health problems. He underwent back surgery on January 21. Boston College will present Cousy with an honorary doctor of humane letters. He has honorary degrees from Springfield College, Becker College and Holy Cross.
