Welcome to the Garden …

Welcome to TD Garden, where the Boston Celtics (4-7) will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (11-2) at 8 p.m.
Kevin Durant (above) is warming up on the parquet for Oklahoma City (apologies for the amateur photography). This observer is struck by how softly Durant launches even long-range shots. Even when his ball lands on all rim, he sometimes gets a friendly roll because it takes such a soft landing. By contrast, Paul Pierce looks like he’s throwing a sack of flour at the basket. It never looks like Pierce’s shots are going to go in, but both players are plenty good at knocking in those long-distance shots.
We’re awaiting a breakout game from Pierce in 2012, and we’re also awaiting what should be a warm and fuzzy reception for Kendrick Perkins from the Boston crowd. Perkins spoke to the Globe’s Gary Washburn earlier today (next post down), and although he may be nervous about his return, he shouldn’t be. He’ll get plenty of love.
Perk’s return is nice, but the Celtics do need to get down to the business of winning basketball games. Tonight’s opponent won’t help. Another slow start and the C’s could be on their way to their fifth straight loss.
Back with plenty more from both locker rooms in a bit.
