Rivers expects Knicks fans to be loud

NEW YORK — There’s a buzz in the building was we get closer to gametime and fans file into Madison Square Garden. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he expects Knicks fans to be out in full force.

“It’ll be loud,” said Rivers. “There will be a lot of energy in the building. I think players appreciate that, to be honest. Not just our team. If you really want to bother us, tell no one to come. That will freak us out.”

Rivers said he expects his team to match the enthusiasm level of Knicks fans.

“I just want to start well,” said Rivers. ” We’ve been up and down all year, to be honest. Give the Knicks a little bit of credit for that. We have to play better, and we’ll see what happens.”

Doc’s key point of emphasis tonight? Rebounding. He said he was happier with his team’s defense on Carmelo Anthony in Game 2 than in Game 1, but he was disappointed in the team giving up 20 offensive rebounds.

“I hope so,” said Rivers. “I don’t know what his status is. But listen, he’s on the road, which means he’s getting better. Don’t know if he’ll play Sunday or not. We’ll probably find out a little bit more tomorrow. He’s doing everything he can, that’s all I can say.”
