Reports: Mavericks land Corey Brewer
Swingman Corey Brewer will sign a multi-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks when he clears waivers, league sources told both Yahoo! Sports and ESPN.com. The Celtics were interested in adding Brewer as a backup for Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.
Brewer’s deal in Dallas will be somewhere in the $2 milllion range. The Mavericks took advantage of their ability to spend more on Brewer than the Celtics and Spurs, who also pursued the 6-foot-9-inch guard. Brewer averaged 8.6 points and 1.5 steals for the Timberwolves this season before being traded to the Knicks. Not known as as shooter, Brewer could have filled a role as a defensive stopper for the Celtics.
The Celtics added free agent forward Troy Murphy to the roster yesterday, but the team still has spots open to add another player or two. The Celtics may also choose to sit tight now that their two primary targets have signed.
