Allen: ‘They’re different’

Celtics guard Ray Allen was complimentary of Miami’s newly-formed Big Three of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, but he balked at comparing that trio to the trio of stars the Celtics brought together for the 2007-2008 season.

“I don’t think they’re anything like how we were,” said Allen. “They’re too different. What I did, what Paul did, what Kevin did — we’re different. How they play, how Dwyane and LeBron play, how me and Paul play, it’s just a different dynamic.”

Allen went on to provide perhaps the best explanation I’ve heard so far on the adjustment Miami’s star players will have to make this season, taking experience from when he, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett were first brought together.

“It wasn’t hard at all,” said Allen. “I think Doc and I, we’d get in arguments occasionally. When I was playing I was used to playing, and I had to find a way to get the ball in the basket. Occasionally it would dissolve and I knew how to get the ball in the basket. So when I got here it was like a lot of the things I did, my cuts, coming off pick and rolls — it wasn’t for me. I was making a play for somebody else. So once you see the overall good of what you’re doing, it’s not frustrating or tough at all because you win games. Most guys talk about wanting to win a championship and wanting to be on a team that wins, but at the end of the day you want to do it still being the leading scorer on the team. But when you win games it doesn’t matter who does it.”
