Welcome to Game 6 …
Welcome to TD Garden, where the Boston Celtics will take on the Orlando Magic in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals at 8:30 p.m. The Celtics lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.
This is where the Celtics are supposed to be. They faced the same situation in their last series, when they were up 3-2 with a chance to close out the Cavaliers in Boston. The Celtics won that game and avoided a Game 7 on Cleveland’s home court. They can do the same tonight.
The difference in the “feel” of this situation is that the Celtics were up 3-0, which looks a heck of a lot better than 3-2. In spite of appearances, the Celtics still have the same chance of winning this Game 6 as they had at winning Game 6 of their last series.
Feel better?
The Celtics certainly hope some of their players are feeling better than they felt Wednesday night. Glen Davis is expected to be cleared for tonight’s game (concussion), but Rasheed Wallace (back) is a gametime decision. No sign of either Davis or Wallace on the court yet.
Kendrick Perkins, who just ran onto the court for warm-ups like a kid running to the playground for recess — has been given a reprieve and will start tonight. While that’s great news — Perkins is absolutely necessary if the Celtics are to win — don’t forget that Perkins is still one technical from getting a suspension. It’s hard to imagine Perkins not at least facing a situation in which he could receive a technical tonight, in a potential Game 7, or in a possible seven-game NBA Finals series.
We’re keeping an eye out for Davis and Wallace and will have those updates and more as the game approaches.
