Wallace, Davis will play
Celtics forward Glen Davis confirmed that he will be available to play tonight vs. Orlando, while coach Doc Rivers confirmed Rasheed Wallace (back)will also play. Marquis Daniels (concussion) is the only player who is not available for the Celtics tonight. Tony Allen (ankle) was also limited by injury Wednesday night.
“If you put a uniform on you’re good” said Rivers. “Everybody else is good.”
Wallace was on the court shooting before the game and looked to be moving well. He also participated in the team’s pregame shootaround.
“Spasms, tightness,” is how Rivers described Wallace’s back injury. “He’s not feeling great. But I’m sure through his career he’s played with injury enough that he knows how to play.”
Davis spoke to several reporters in the locker room before the game and said that despite assumptions that he lost some teeth after taking an elbow from Dwight Howard, his teeth are all intact. It was some kind of retainer visible on the floor of Amway Arena after the play in the third quarter of Game 5. The Celtics forward even went as far to say that he didn’t think he had a concussion at all but was knocked momentarily silly like a boxer in a fight, which is why he had trouble finding his feet.
The official stance from the team is that Davis did suffer a concussion.
“I just know that they gave him clearance,” said Rivers. “I know he had to see several doctors to get clearance. We don’t have the same rules obviously as football, because they wear helmets and they actually do try to hit each other. Our game, you’re not supposed to get hit on the head. So hopefully he’s not hid on the head tonight. He’s passed all the tests. But I don’t know the history, honestly. There’s always concern. I’m always concerned about my players.”
On Daniels, Rivers said, “He’s probably out for a while. He had tingling in his feet, hands. Couldn’t feel either one for a while. So that gets dangerous.”
— On the possibility of Kendrick Perkins picking up a 7th technical foul, Rivers said, “I don’t know how he’s going to handle it. If I could predict that he wouldn’t have six techs.”
