NBA’s rule on technicals: What it means for Perkins
Kendrick Perkins picked up two technical fouls in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight against Orlando, earning an automatic ejection from the game. Perkins has now been whistled for seven technical fouls in the 2010 playoffs and will be, by rule, suspended for one game unless one of the technicals from tonight’s game is rescinded by the league office. The NBA’s complete rules on technical and flagrant fouls can be found here.
The relevant information on Perkins:
Technical Foul 7: $2,500 fine plus one-game suspension Each Additional Technical Foul: $2,500 fine Each two Additional Technical Fouls (9, 11, 13, etc.): $2,500 fine plus one-game suspension.
And this:
If a player is suspended during the Playoffs, such a suspension will be served commencing with the next scheduled game. In the event that a player’s team is eliminated from the Playoffs, the suspension (or the remaining games in the suspension) will be served commencing with the first game of the 2010-11 NBA regular season in which the player is eligible and physically able to play.
