Rivers: Allen is odd man out
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Tony Allen will remain the last man in the team’s rotation until his play improves.
“The bottom line is everybody’s not going to play,” said Rivers. “But he’s working hard. And I think he’s ready to play if we need him.”
The Celtics have been using a rotation of 10 or 11 players even without Allen. Rivers was asked if he would use that large of a rotation during the playoffs.
“Probably not,” said Rivers. “But we don’t have to do it until the playoffs. We’re in no hurry.
Rivers was asked how the Nuggets would be different without Martin.
“[Chris] Anderson is pretty good back there, and Nene,” said Rivers. “They’re a deep team. Martin gives them a lot as well. They’re a lot like us without Kevin [Garnett], I guess, because he’s their defensive guy as well. It definitely effects their rotations and all that stuff. They switch so much of their stuff defensively, and Martin’s one of those guys that can guard a three, a two, or a one on a switch.”
On the last time these two teams played, a 114-105 Nuggets win on Feb. 21, Rivers said, “I thought they got every shot they wanted that entire game.”
