Garnett on LeBron?

He only mentioned it in passing, but with Paul Pierce out, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Tony Allen, Marquis Daniels, and maybe even Kevin Garnett would take turns guarding LeBron James. Of course, Allen and Daniels are the first choices, but if Daniels (flu) can’t play much, it’s interesting for Rivers to even mention Garnett as a possible option.

  • Former Celtic Leon Powe drew a crowd of around 15 reporters before the game, likely more than he’ll draw at any other point this season. Powe was a popular player with the fans and his teammates during his time in Boston.

While he said he was unhappy the Celtics chose not to re-sign him this offseason, Powe handled the question with his usual class.

“I was a little disappointed, but business is a business,” said Powe. “You have to move on… I don’t know why. Everyone knows my work ethic. I don’t know if they questioned my work ethic or not, I felt like if I worked hard enough, I would be able to get back when I said I would.”

Asked about Powe, Doc Rivers said he would have loved to have him on his team but that the Celtics were forced to let Powe walk because of his knee injury.

“I’m just happy he’s playing basketball,” said Rivers. “I’d love to have him, he’s a great guy, a great spirit, but I understand we couldn’t and that’s a decision we had to make. We needed to go out and get a Rasheed Wallace, get bigger, do things like that. I’d love to have Leon — love to have Leon next to me on the bench and playing for the rest of my coaching carer. He’s that good of a guy to have in locker room.”

Said Powe, “This building has been good to me, the organization has been great. I won a championship here. I’m still friends with the guys. It’s all love when I come back here.”
