Celtics 35, Bulls 29 (End first quarter)
Now that’s more like it.
Glen Davis and Kendrick Perkins dominated the paint in the first quarter to help the Celtics to a powerful start in Game 2. Perkins made 4-of-5 shots and finished the first quarter with 8 points and 5 rebounds in just six minutes, while Davis used 10 shots to become the game’s leading scorer with 12 points.
The Celtics were aided on the defensive end when Derek Rose picked up his second foul at the 8:49 mark of the quarter and was replaced by Kirk Hinrich.
Boston took care of the paint in the first, but Ray Allen still couldn’t get himself on track from the outside. Allen missed his first shot attempt of the game, a three-pointer, and has yet to score in the game. Allen went 1-for-12 from the field and 0-for-6 from behind the arc in a dismal performance in Game 1. He did not speak to reporters before Game 2.
Leon Powe is playing with a honking knee brace on his right knee. He said before the game he hates wearing it, but that it does provide him with some cushion in case someone bumps him.
There was a tangible buzz in the crowd during the first quarter. Fans here sense the urgency of their team turning in a solid performance in Game 2 and not getting into an emotionally-crushing hole in this series.
