Boston Celtics

KG will start on Shaq

TD BANKNORTH GARDEN — With Kendrick Perkins (shoulder) out, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Kevin Garnett will start the game guarding Suns center Shaquille O’Neal. Brian Scalabrine will start at forward alongside Garnett for the Celtics.

“Not the greatest matchup,” said Rivers. “But without Perk we don’t have much of a choice. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Rivers said Glen Davis will get the first call on Shaq off the bench.

“Baby has a lower center of gravity,” said Rivers. “We need that.”

For his part, Davis was asked before the game if he thought he would be starting tonight.

“Are you kidding me?” Davis asked. “Doc doesn’t start rookies. I’m a rookie in his eyes.”
