Boston Celtics

Notes from the locker room

The Celtics begin a stretch of 5 games in 7 nights with tonight’s tilt against the Bucks.

“It’s as tough as I’ve seen early,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. “I don’t know if there is a silver lining to it, except for when we’re done with it, it’s over. We’re playing good teams in this stretch.”

The Celtics will have an open practice tomorrow, but Rivers said he can’t see the team having a decent practice until December. The team’s last practice was Monday in Houston, the day before the Celtics played the Rockets.

Rivers has a theory that his players just want to play, and that they don’t mind playing so many games in stretches like these (The theory was confirmed by Rajon Rondo, who said before the game, “I just wanna ball, man”). But Rivers said the older players on his team might have a tough time playing so often.

“By my sixth year [in the league as a player], I was telling the young guys how tough it was,” said Rivers.

  • It hasn’t happened very often, but the spotlight isn’t shining on the TD Banknorth Garden tonight. This is the first Celtics home game that hasn’t been nationally televised since the last game of the regular season last year. Not as many members of the media here, either. Pretty much had a private session with Bucks coach Scott Skiles before the game.
