This feels like the opening round of a title fight.

What we learned here in the first half is that nothing’s going to come easy, and that both teams have some really talented players.

Kevin Garnett is leading the Celtics with 14 points at the break. Antonio McDyess has 10 for the Pistons, and Tayshuan Prince has 9.

The two key stats so far are shooting percentage and free throws. The Celtics are shooting 51 percent to Detroit’s 39 percent. However, that stat is countered by the fact that the Pistons are 14 of 17 from the line, while the Celtics are just 3 of 7.

  • Scot Pollard is sitting on the Celtics bench in a suit. Pollard was shut down for the season after right ankle surgery, and he hasn’t been attending every Celtics game. He’s here tonight.
