Boston Celtics

On his shoulders

LeBron James never lacks confidence, but the superstar chose his words carefully while sitting at his locker before today’s pivotal Game 7 against the Celtics. He didn’t seem nervous, but he didn’t show his “A LeBron James team is never desperate” swagger, either.

“It don’t get no better than this,” said James. “A Game 7 at the Garden. It don’t get no better than this.”

James was asked if his team was the underdog today.

“We always are,” he said. “Anytime we step out on the court we are, no matter who we’re going against. We know we don’t get any credit for what we do. We just go out and continue to play the games the right way, continue to win playoff basketball games, and continue to win playoff series. We just go out and do what we have to do to win basketball games.”

The Cavaliers are 0-5 in Boston this season, including the regular season. They have a daunting task today.

“There’s no way you can block out this home crowd,” said James. “It’s a great home-court advantage. You have to do what needs to be done to win a ball game. The best way you can quiet them up is to win a basketball game.

“It’s more rewarding for me to go in somebody else’s building and win on the road. I’ve done it every year I’ve been in the postseason…It’s pretty fun.”

  • Cavaliers coach Mike Brown agreed with LeBron’s underdog statement.

“It doesn’t matter,” said Brown. “I think we were the underdogs last year. I think we were the underdogs the year before….I really liked that cartoon.”
