Celtics, 50-40 (half)
Paul Pierce is trying to carve his niche among Celtics legends.
Pierce carried the Celtics in the first half, pouring in 26 points to give the C’s the double-digit lead at the break.
Pierce went down hard after being fouled on a breakaway with 23.3 seconds left in the half, but he got up and was able to knock down both free throws. The C’s need him to be healthy.
The Cavaliers tried playing without LeBron James for about two minutes, and that didn’t work. James has 23 points for Cleveland. No one else has more than four. If he’s going to win this game, it appears he’s going to do it all by himself.
Delonte West has played 21 minutes at point guard for Cleveland. Without Daniel Gibson, the Cavs are severely shorthanded at the point. And with how hard West plays, don’t be surprised to see him slow down in the second half.
Eddie House played nine huge minutes for the Celtics off the bench. His play allowed Rajon Rondo to get some rest, which should be huge in the second half.
