Bring on the Pistons
The Celtics don’t have much time to prepare for the Pistons. The Eastern Conference Finals start Tuesday night at the Garden.
“They are a terrific team,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. “Before the year people thought it’d be us and Detroit in the Eastern Finals, and we believed that too. We just wanted it to start at home in Boston. They are a great team. Flip (Saunders) is a great coach. They’ve been together longer. They’ve been through all the wars longer. Having gone through these two [series] has to have helped us a little bit too. It will be a good series.”
The Celtics might come into the series at a bit of a disadvantage. The Pistons closed out Magic in Game 5 on Tuesday night.
“We will enjoy this [win],” said Kevin Garnett. “But as we advance, it does get a little more difficult. Detroit obviously has been resting, been waiting, and we’ve played 14 hard games.”
He’s had a pretty good look at both teams, so LeBron James knows a little something about the series that’s coming up. He said that as a fan of the game, he’s definitely planning on watching.
“I know Detroit is a very, very good road team,” said James. “I think Detroit takes a lot of pride on the road, I think even more than they do at home. They’re a very locked in, zoned in team. They’ve been to the conference finals, what, six straight years? I think Boston is going to take that challenge. It’s going to open up here for Game 1 and Game 2, and it’s going to be a great series. And I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
