Rivers: ‘You have to remind guys who they are’
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he didn’t do anything different to fire up his team before today’s pivotal Game 7.
“We prepare the same way every day,” said Rivers. “We don’t change anything. We make our adjustments, whatever they are, and then we get ready to play. That’s all we can do.”
Rivers said today was not the kind of day for a pre-game speech.
“It speaks for itself,” said Rivers. “You do what you have to do to remind the guys who they are…having said that, you definitely have to prepare.”
Who the Celtics were all season was team with the NBA’s best record. Rivers was asked if the team lost a sense of who they were.
“In three games we did,” said Rivers. “We’re playing Game 7 because we were the best defensive team in the NBA. We’re also playing Game 7 because in three games, we haven’t been the best team in the NBA.”
