Bring on the Cavs
The Celtics open their second-round playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at the TD Banknorth Garden. Cleveland dispatched of Washington 4-2 in its first round series.
Any discussion of the Cavaliers has to start with LeBron James.
“He is a spectacular player,” said Celtics center Kendrick Perkins. “But they have a team over there. Besides LeBron they have a team. We can’t just focus on one guy, we have to come out and play team ball. And know whoever is guarding LeBron, we are going to be there to help him.”
Celtics coach Doc Rivers pointed to Cleveland’s playoff experience and actually called the Celtics underdogs.
“They were in the Finals last year,” said Rivers. “One of the things I told our team all year that every time we played them and already tonight, that we’re trying to catch them, not them trying to catch us. The record means nothing. That team went to the Finals last year, so in our mind we’re trying to catch them.”
Glen “Big Baby” Davis said the Celtics will have a lot of preparation to do.
“We have to get a new scout book, about this thick, we have to study and be prepared for the game,” said Davis. “They are coming here first, we have to make sure we start the tempo, that we establish the pace, and we play together as a group like we did today.”
