Sam Cassell had 9 points off the bench in the second quarter as the Celtics opened up a double-digit lead on the Hawks. Cassell and Leon Powe got a standing ovation when they were taken out of the game.
The Celtics stepped up their defense in the second quarter and brought the Hawks down to 39-percent shooting. Boston is out-rebounding Atlanta, 23-15.
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo are all in double-figures for the Celtics.
Tony Allen, who’s played sparingly this series, checked into the game at the 4:15 mark. He scored on Boston’s first offensive possession. Later on, he fouled Joe Johnson as he was attempting a three-pointer.
