Boston Celtics

Celtics, 29-21 (1)

The Hawks started the game 1-of-6 as the Celtics built an 11-2 lead midway through the first.

The Celtics are always an intense bunch, but Kendrick Perkins stood on the baseline and yelled, “Let’s go” after corralling an offensive rebound and drawing a foul at the 8:43 mark. It was a lot of emotion for even the sometimes-volatile Perkins to show.

Leon Powe was the first Celtic off the bench, replacing Perkins and guarding Josh Smith. James Posey came in for Ray Allen a few minutes later.

The Hawks seemed intimidated early on as the Celtics built the lead to 26-13 at the 2:53 mark.

Atlanta made a run late in the quarter, closing the lead to 26-21 with 1:21 to play.

The Celtics made 3-of-5 three pointers in the quarter.

  • Smoke from the pregame pyrotechnics is still lingering in the building. Not sure how it looks in high def, but in real def it looks foggy.
  • The crowd cheered when the Pistons-Sixers score was shown on the Jumbotron. Detroit lost 90-86 in Game 1 of their series with Philadelphia.
  • Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, and Mike Lowell are in the house. Pedroia is wearing a Rajon Rondo shirt.

Sox owner John Henry is also here.
