Pierce wants No. 17
Paul Pierce got on the mic and addressed the crowd before tonight’s game.
“All I can remember the last two or three years is promising ya’ll better days,” Pierce said. “We got better days now.”
As Pierce talked, he walked around the court, smacking on his gum. He had the cadence of a man who isn’t afraid of anything.
“We were talking in the locker room, and we all said we had a good year,” he said. “We want to make this a great year. In order for us to do that, we need to get another banner up in these rafters.”
The crowd gave Pierce a standing ovation.
“As much as it hurts myself and my teammates to be going home tomorrow, we vow that this time next year this won’t be our last game,” said Pierce. “We’re going to the playoffs and we going to make some noise.”
