The Suns made a run to start the second quarter, closing the gap to 33-26 and forcing the Celtics to call a timeout at the 9:14 mark.
Phoenix closed it to 41-38 with 5:44 to play. They took the lead on a Steve Nash layup at the 2:36 mark.
The Celtics had no answer for Amare Stoudemire, who had 10 points in the quarter and has 20 points for the game.
After shooting 54 percent in the first, the Celtics dropped off dramatically, finishing at 47 percent for the half. The Suns are shooting 62 percent.
One positive for the Celtics in the half is they were able to draw three personal fouls on Shaquille O’Neal.
