Welcome to the Garden …
Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (50-12) will take on the Seattle Supersonics (16-48) at 7:30 p.m.
Tonight is Southwest Airline bobblehead night. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Kevin Garnett bobblehead. They’re a pretty good likeness of KG, in my opinion.
At first glance, there aren’t too many ways the Sonics can make this a competitive game. Seattle is 6-27 on the road this season, and tonight is the final game of their East Coast road trip. The Celtics, meanwhile, are well-rested after having yesterday off following a short jaunt to Philadelphia. They’re looking to win their 10th straight game, a feat they haven’t accomplished in 22 years.
The good news for Seattle is warming up on one end of the court right now. Kevin Durant, No. 2 pick in last year’s draft, is going through warm-ups with Sonics coaches. This is my first time seeing him in person, and he’s much taller than I expected. He’s every bit of those 6-feet-9-inches, but he needs to add some weight to that 215-pound frame. Still, the Celtics don’t really have a player that matches up well with Durant. Not many NBA teams do.
On the home end of the court, Sam Cassell and James Posey are warming up for the Celtics. This is Cassell’s home debut after playing sparingly in Monday’s win at Philadelphia. He should get a nice hand, and perhaps some significant playing time, tonight.
We’re off to the locker rooms to chat with some players. Back in a bit.
