Welcome to the Garden
Welcome to the Garden, where the Celtics (46-12) will take on the Detroit Pistons (43-16) at 7:30 p.m.
Those records weren’t a typo. The two best teams in the NBA play in the Eastern Conference, and they play in Boston tonight for the final time in the regular season. This year’s Western Conference playoffs might be the most entertaining playoffs ever, but I still haven’t seen a more entertaining NBA game this year than the first time these two teams met Dec. 19. A seven-game playoff series between Detroit and Boston would be unbelievable.
The Pistons snuck away with an 87-85 win on Dec. 19, as Chauncey Billups drew a foul on Tony Allen in a tie game and nailed the winning free throws.
The Celtics returned the favor on Detroit’s home court. Led by Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis’s 20 points, Boston came away with a 92-85 win in early January.
Rajon Rondo is on the court right now warming up for the Celtics. He’ll be the starter and the backup tonight, as the newly-acquired Sam Cassell will not be in the building due to a funeral in the family. Rondo is going through his regular routine, taking jumpers and shooting free-throws. One of the Celtics dancers is going through warm-ups right behind him. She is wearing a No. 9 Rondo jersey.
As Marc Spears reported earlier today, it’s unclear if P.J. Brown will be in uniform tonight for the Celtics. We’ll update you on Brown as soon as we hear anything.
We’ll be back with plenty more from these two heavyweights as the night goes on.
