Boston Celtics

Welcome to the Garden

Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (43-12) will take on the Cleveland Cavaliers (32-25) at 7:30 p.m.

The big news of the day is that P.J. Brown is coming to Boston. As first reported by Marc Spears, the 6-foot-11-inch power forward will provide a veteran presence off the bench for the C’s.

The other big news of the day is that LeBron James is in town. The Cavaliers are brand new. Gone are Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes. On the roster are former Celtics Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak, as well as Ben Wallace and Joe Smith. With the new players, the Cavs lost to Milwaukee last night and beat Memphis on Sunday.

The merits of Cleveland’s trade were a hot topic in the press room before the game. Cleveland’s beat writers still don’t know what to think of the deal because it’s so early. The general consensus is that the Cavs took a step forward on defense and a step backward on offense.

  • Brian Scalabrine is on the court right now working out for the Celtics. Scal didn’t play during the team’s West Coast road trip because of a strained groin. He appears to be moving well, but he isn’t doing anything too intense, just shooting jumpers.

Both locker rooms should be pretty entertaining today. We’ll be back with quotes from several players in a bit.
