Boston Celtics

Welcome to the Garden

Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (30-5) will take on the Washington Wizards (19-16) at 7:30 p.m.

The game is on as scheduled, and the snow has not caused any changes in the start time. The Celtics are certainly glad this one is being played. It gives them a chance to avenge their 85-78 loss at Washington on Saturday night. It was Boston’s second loss in three games, a blip the Celtics hope doesn’t turn into a trend.

Rajon Rondo injured his back in the second half of Saturday’s loss, and his status for tonight is up in the air. Rondo is not working out on the court right now for the Celtics, and this is usually about the time he comes out to shoot. That may not mean much, though, because Rondo did the same thing a couple of weeks ago when he was questionable for the Rockets game after missing a game with the Lakers. Rondo started against the Rockets.

Playing without Gilbert Arenas for most of the season, the Wizards are right in the midst of the playoff hunt in the East. Caron Butler has been a monster for Washington, averaging 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

The Celtics played the Wizards once more this season, on Opening Night. That game was a 103-83 blowout win for Boston in front of one of the most excited Garden crowds in years.

The Celtics did not hold a shootaround this morning, and the players are a little late getting out on the court for warm-ups. If more practice was what they needed to get out of their funk, they may be out of luck. If rest was the key to success, then maybe this will do them good.
