Credit where credit is due
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett refused to play the “we didn’t come to play” card after tonight’s loss to the Bobcats. Both players credited Charlotte for playing well.
“Don’t take anything away from Charlotte,” said Pierce. “They really played hard, played well, played together…These teams, they’re NBA teams also. On any given night we can be beaten by anybody.”
Garnett didn’t blame the loss on the absence of Ray Allen, either.
“He’s one of our better players,” Garnett said of Allen. “But when he’s out, other players have to step up.”
Tonight’s loss was Boston’s first of the season by more than five points. It was also the team’s first loss against an opponent that, on paper, the Celtics were supposed to beat.
“I think we’ve gotten so spoiled to the point where we’ve come out and worked so hard defensively and been consistent with it,” said Garnett. “And tonight that wasn’t the case. I think we spoiled not only you guys but the fans and everybody. And that’s a good thing. We worked to get to that point. It wasn’t given to us. We went out and worked for that.”
