Welcome to the Garden
Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (26-3) look to improve on the NBA’s best record when they face the Houston Rockets (15-16) tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The Celtics have another chance to get richer tonight. They return from a 4-0 West Coast trip to an arena where they’ve gone 14-1 this season. And Houston’s best player won’t be on the court.
Tracy McGrady will miss his fourth straight game while recovering from a sore left knee. That means added pressure on Yao Ming.
Speaking of Yao, the Rockets big man is warming up right now on the away team’s end of the court. Yao is stroking mid-range jumpers. It’s that touch from the outside that gives other teams so much trouble when combined with his inside dominance.
Tony Allen was just warming for the Celtics, but he has since gone back to the locker room. No sign of Rajon Rondo, who usually shoots around this time. Rondo is active tonight despite that sore hamstring, Doc Rivers said this morning. Rondo missed the last game with the injury.
There’s a large contingent of Chinese media here to see Yao play the NBA’s best team tonight. Should be a good one.
We’ll have plenty more when the locker rooms open in a bit.
