Not so fast

Kobe Bryant is arguably the best player in the NBA, but Phil Jackson shied away from comparing him to Michael Jordan, particularly in terms of longevity.

“It’s tough to speak on that,” said Jackson. “He’s 29 now. Projecting seven years down the road is pretty tough…His ability to shoot the ball, know how to do things on the floor, is going to keep him on the floor a long time.”

Jackson was asked about a comment by Doc Rivers, who called Bryant the best defensive player in the league.

“He’s working real hard at it,” said Jackson. “The effort’s there. The other night [Michael] Redd had some moments. I know there was some disappointment there. But Kobe’s given really good effort this year. Last year I thought there were times when he was tired, and putting more effort into the offense than the defense.”
