Diplomatic answers

The season is young, but Paul Pierce is refusing to take the bait when asked by reporters if he’s excited about his team’s 3-0 start.

“We’re just trying to build something,” said Pierce. “This is only the third game. It’s a process we’re going through. And it’s going to be every day. We can’t get bored with it. We have to continue to go out there and work hard. Today was a good win, but we have to continue to go out there and build on it.”

Kevin Garnett preaches the same mantra.

“Ya’ll have to understand, when we’re in the game we’re working on something,” said Garnett. “Every day we come to practice, Doc, his biggest test for us is to carry it over from practice to in here. We didn’t finish the game nearly as well as we know we could. You have to understand, repetition is repetition is repetition. That’s the thing Doc is preaching to us.”

When asked if he was impressed with Boston’s 77-point first half, Garnett didn’t budge.

“No, because we’re in there working,” said Garnett. “It’s like when you read a good column and somebody says, ‘Oh, are you amazed about your column?’ No, because I wrote it. When you’re in there working and you’re sweating, not that you expect it, but you expect it to be what you’re putting into it. And we’re working hard out there.”

“We’re just scratching the surface of where we could be,” added Pierce. “We are nowhere near where we want to be, but we are getting closer each and every day.”
