With Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen on the bench, Paul Pierce excelled with the second unit. Then when they came back in he stayed in the game and kept on rolling. Pierce has 19 points and four rebounds. He even took a charge with 2:12 remaining in the half. He played all but the final 34.3 seconds of the first half.
Tony Allen looks great for the Celtics. He’s been the aggressive, high-energy player the Celtics expect him to be in limited minutes here in the first half. Allen has 4 points and 4 rebounds.
It’s still hazy in here from the pregame pyrotechnics.
Despite the expectations, it’s not quite the circus I imagined it would be tonight at the Garden. The crowd is enthusiastic but not over-the-top. There are plenty of media members in attendance, but it doesn’t compare to the media frenzy when Ron Artest made his season debut last year in Boston following a suspension.
Are fans bracing for a long season? Experiencing a Red Sox hangover? Perhaps the home preseason debut gave Celtics fans a chance to see the Big Three together already. Things should pick up in the second half.
New England Patriots representing tonight include owners Robert and Myra Kraft, lineman Vince Wilfork, receiver Wes Welker, running back Laurence Maroney, and linebacker Junior Seau. Is there a game on Sunday?
