Allen’s thoughts
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce met the media from the podium, but Ray Allen did his interview in the locker room tonight. He said his Garden debut was what he expected.
“People were rocking,” said Allen. “I think they’ve been anticipating this for a long time. The people in Boston, having something on the floor they can root for and rally behind all year.”
Allen admitted he was nervous to start the game, but he got over the jitters to score 17 points in his Celtics debut.
“I had to take a couple of deeper breaths and just kind of go to what I do,” he said.
“We’re not competing. This city is so supportive of all of its teams. We’re not competing against anybody. It’s great to see the support from Patriots players. Likewise we’ve supported them.”
“It’s a good message to put out there, but they’ll be trying every night. At no point do we say, ‘Look what we did.'”
“Just looking around the whole building…I feel so insignificant compared to the things that [past players have] done in their careers. The places this franchise has gone. It’s like, ‘Wow, what can we do here to put a little dent in Boston sports history?’ That’s what we hope to do is just give people something to cheer about, to talk about us.”
