Celtics, 50-41 (half)
The crowd erupted as Rajon Rondo took an inbounds pass with two seconds remaining in the half, dribbled, spun, and threw up a halfcourt-shot that banked in as time expired. The shot has given the Celtics a nine-point lead at the break.
The Celtics rookie showed he wasn’t afraid to look for his shot in the first half against the Hawks. Ray made four-of-seven shots for 10 points.
Doc Rivers said before the game he would use Ray at the point guard tonight. Ray split time between the one and the two positions in the first half and responded well.
“He hasn’t really had a chance to play that position at all,” said Rivers. “But I’m just going to throw him in there anyways.”
Rivers said Ray has played some point guard in practice out of necessity because of injuries to other players. Ray also spent some time at the point in his with the NBDL’s Austin Toros last month.
