Spur of the moment
Welcome to the Garden, where the Celtics are set to take on the San Antonio Spurs at 7:30 p.m.
We’ll start with the streak. The Celtics have lost 17 straight games to the Spurs. San Antonio is 23-1 in their last 24 games against Boston. Spurs All-Star Tim Duncan, who bounced to San Antonio in the 1997 NBA Lottery, has never lost to the Celtics.
This is San Antonio’s first and last trip to Boston this season. The Spurs are 28-3 and third in the West, but as Peter May wrote Sunday, the talk in San Antonio has focused on the team’s inconsistency.
Jefferson is working with Celtics assistant coach Clifford Ray on his mid-range jump shot. With Ray putting a hand in his face, Jefferson drained five-straight 10-footers without grazing rim. It’s a shot that could be useful against Tim Duncan tonight.
