Wally out tonight
Delonte West will start at the point tonight without limitations, according to Celtics coach Doc Rivers.
“Once he gets out on the floor he’s going all out,” said Rivers. “There’s no minute thing or anything. I’m just going to judge by his wind and how he’s playing.”
“It didn’t feel right when he got in today, so we decided to wait until Monday or Wednesday,” said Rivers. “If he can’t play today he can’t play this weekend obviously.”
“We got on him pretty hard after our last home game (against Toronto) because he had no offensive rebounds,” said Rivers.
The team charts rebounding attempts, and in that game Rivers said Jefferson never went after a single offensive rebound. Rivers said players typically have 15 chances a game to go for an offensive rebound, and players who go after them half the time are considered good offensive rebounders.
“Defensive rebounding he’s been doing that all year,” said Rivers. “I think he learned early on that if they’re going to trap him he has to find a way to stay on the floor. He figures if he rebounds well he stays on the floor.”
Rivers was asked whether he thought Jefferson would ever lead the league in rebounding.
“I think it’s tough for scorers to lead the league in rebounding,” he said. “But he seems to have a good feel of where the ball is going.”
Back in a bit with a Paul Pierce injury update.
