The Providence Bruins rounded out their coaching personnel on Wednesday, announcing that that the team has hired Ryan Bourque as an assistant coach on Ryan Mougenel’s staff.
Bourque — who is the son of Bruins legend Ray Bourque — joins an assistant-coach grouping with Boston’s AHL affiliate that also includes Trent Whitfield and goaltending coach Mike Dunham.
Bourque has plenty of experience in the American Hockey League, as he played in 585 AHL games across nine seasons with Connecticut/Hartford, Hershey, Bridgeport, and Charlotte. He scored 85 goals and posted 203 total points over that stretch.
The Topsfield native was a third-round pick by the New York Rangers in 2009, eventually appearing in one NHL game with the Blueshirts during the 2014-15 season.
Bourque has some experience in the coaching ranks, serving as an assistant coach with the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2023-24 and also coaching with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHl from 2021-23.
This past year, Bourque was the head coach of the boys’ hockey team at his alma mater, Cushing Academy in Ashburnham.
