Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman showcases custom Team USA mask for 4 Nations Face-Off
Swayman's mask features references to the Bruins, Ricky Bobby, and more.
As the Bruins head into a break for NHL’s “4 Nations Face-Off,” Jeremy Swayman showcased his custom Team USA mask for the best-on-best international tournament.
Swayman, who’ll be defending the net for Team USA alongside Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger, had plenty of unique references painted on his special goalie mask.
Of course, Swayman had a Bruins-related design on the mask: an outline of Boston’s skyline with the word “Boston” underneath. Swayman also had a skyline of the same style for Montreal. Both Boston and Montreal will be host sites for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.
Outside of that, Swayman’s mask also features fighter jets, which the goaltender said was a suggestion from teammate Trent Frederic, as well as an iconic image of U.S. soldiers raising an American flag over Iwo Jima.
And, as a finishing touch to the mask, Swayman included an image of Will Ferrell’s Ricky Bobby, the main character of “Talladega Nights,” along with his signature catchphrase, “shake and bake.”
Take a look at the mask here:
As for Swayman’s role in the tournament for Team USA, that remains unclear. Swayman was one of the best goalies in the NHL last season, but hasn’t been quite the same this year. On top of that, Hellebuyck has the lowest goals allowed average (2.06) in the entire NHL. Oettinger is No. 7 in the NHL with a 2.35 GAA.
The 4 Nations Face-Off exhibition games will be played in Montreal beginning on Feb. 12. TD Garden will host the semifinals and championship game on Feb. 17 and 20.
