Ryan Johnston named Bruins’ radio play-by-play announcer, replacing Judd Sirott

As the Bruins broadcast reshuffle continues after the retirement of longtime TV voice Jack Edwards, another piece of the puzzle fell into place Friday with 98.5 The Sports Hub announcing that Ryan Johnston would be calling the team’s games on the radio this season.
Johnston, the play-by-play fill-in for the network since 2010 and a 98.5 voice since 2009, is finally getting a shot to call games full time as previous play-by-play man Judd Sirott moves over to TV in Edwards’s place.
“This is truly my dream job, and I could not be more excited for this opportunity,” said Johnston in a release. “I’m thankful to the management team at 98.5 The Sports Hub and the Bruins organization for putting their faith in me. I’m fortunate to work alongside Bob Beers, who is one of the best analysts in the NHL. Really looking forward to the season and providing listeners with the quality broadcast they’ve come to expect.”
A Syracuse grad, Johnston has called college hockey games on the network and spent several years as the voice of the AHL’s Lowell Lock Monsters and Lowell Devils before joining 98.5. Johnston has hosted the station’s Saturday morning “Sports Hub Hockey Show” since 2012, and has been a regular fill-in for the “Toucher & Hardy” (previously “Toucher & Rich”) morning program.
