The Bruins received some much-needed scoring punch further down the lineup on Thursday night, with forward Morgan Geekie scoring his first career hat trick in Boston’s 5-4 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
Geekie hit the sought-after scoring milestone in less than two periods of play, sparking an avalanche of caps and toques down on the Garden ice at 16:32 in the second period. Geekie has now scored 13 goals and posted 30 points through 55 games this season — both representing career highs for the 25-year-old forward.

“I think for me, any time you can join the Presidents’ Trophy winners from the year before — any kind of part of that would be great,” Geekie said of joining Boston. “I wasn’t coming in here with any expectations to play more, play less.
“I just wanted to be a part of something with the culture they have and what they were building for the year later. So everything else is icing on the cake. I’m just happy to be a Bruin.”
It’s been tough sledding for Geekie as of late when it comes to lighting the lamp — with Boston’s free-agent pickup scoring just two goals over his last 22 games entering Thursday night.
But it didn’t take long for Geekie to dole out some damage against goalie Adin Hill and the Golden Knights. He opened the scoring at 14:34 in the first period off a breakaway bid — fed off of a change-up feed from Trent Frederic.

Just 2:20 later, Geekie struck again — finding twine after rifling a slick past from David Pastrnak past Hill on an odd-man rush.

Pastrnak set up Geekie’s third goal in the following frame, with Geekie tipping his turn-around wrist shot past Hill to give Boston a 4-2 lead at the time.

Geekie’s contributions were needed, as Boston relinquished what was once a 3-0 lead to Vegas. The score was tied, 4-4, in the closing minutes of the third period before Mason Lohrei gave Boston the lead for good with a power-play tally at 15:23.
“I don’t know if I ever dreamed about it,” Geekie said postgame of scoring a hat trick. “But it’s something I’ll never forget, for sure. It’s one of those things that you always hope will happen.
“And it’s not something you ever put weight on — a lot of good players in this league. It’s not something that happens every day. So, you know, I’m definitely gonna cherish it, for sure. And it all restarts on — I don’t know what day it is, whenever we play the Islanders [on Saturday].”
